WELCOME
Hi, my name is Jacqueline Gavagan and I am a speech language pathologist. I have been a speech language pathologist since 1990. I received my BA in Speech and Hearing Science from SUNY Plattsburgh, MS in Special Education from CUNY Hunter, and my MS in Speech Language Pathology from Long Island University. I worked in the NY Board of Education system for nine years, worked in home therapy setting for 8 years, private practice setting for 2 years and I currently am a speech language specialist for several private schools in NJ.
I have experience with children pre-school through middle school. Every day my profession is filled with many new challenges and opportunities to learn new things. In addition to having experience with a wide range of speech and language disorders, I am PROMPT trained and I have received training in Applied Behavior Analysis. I have also been trained to use the "World of R' approach to teaching the "R" sound. I have seen a lot of progress in children with persistent "R" difficulties.
My philosophy is to teach children to take responsibility for their own communication and to teach them skills and strategies to become active listeners and effective speakers in their home, school, and community. Younger children are taught specific skills through play therapy. Therapy sessions are individual based on each client's specific needs. I am available for screening, evaluations, direct therapy, and parent training.
